Neon Insects

Rare Pink Katydids

Standing out isn't usually an insect's desired goal. Most insects possess a natural form of camouflage that hides them from predators. This bright pink katydid is a notable exception.

While the vibrant color of these extremely rare pink katydids probably isn't an intentional act of rebellion, their distinctive look certainly exudes a certain mystique.

Scientific speculation points towards their unusual color as the result of a genetic condition known as erythrism, which denotes an unusual red pigmentation.

Whatever the case, these little pretties are my new favorite insect.
