Water conservation, cool design and clean laundry: What else could you want from a washing machine?

The Re-Cycle Laundry Center was designed by Mexican designers Fernanda Villanueva and Arturo Ariño, who saw a need to address water conservation in their home country.

The machine is made of three tanks: a washer, a dryer and a water filtration unit. By rotating the unit clockwise, the water is gravity-fed to the purifying tank so that it can be reused for the next cycle. A touch-screen monitor keeps users appraised of when the water will be ready for the next cycle. In the meantime, the dryer is doing its thing.

One possible drawback is that it looks like it might need more space than conventional units. On the other hand, it looks like art, so it doesn't necessarily need to be tucked away in a dingy utility room.

Hmmm... These could be cool in laundromats...
