NASA Makes Magnetic Fields Visible

— June 3, 2008 — Pop Culture
Scientists at NASA's Space Sciences Laboratory have figured out a way to make magnetic fields "visible as "animated photographs," using sound-controlled CGI and 3D compositing", according to Gizmodo. Using these techniques, they developed a number of unique scenes and assembled them into a "magnetic movie". The movie is somewhat mesmerizing and really does resemble the films I have seen of the Sun's eruptions and of some aspects of the polar auroras. The simulated flux lines dance, loop, and reconnect as you hear actual sound recordings of electromagnetic disturbances recorded by the scientists.
