Google Makes Quiet Huge Deal

GE Adds GOOG 411 to Phone Keypad

General Electric made a deal with Google for some prime real estate. It's not dirt, it's the center button on their new cordless phone. The Premier DECT 6.0 has a GOOG-411 button in the heart of the keypad. So without any hassle you can get phone numbers for businesses out of Google - and there is no charge.

"GOOG-411 is a free voice-activated information system, available on any phone at (800) 466-4411. The dedicated buttons on the Premiere series make it easier to search for home addresses and businesses using the service. The base station also has a clock with an alarm and a bright red L.E.D. screen showing the number of pending voice mail messages.

The handsets have caller ID and the system can support up to six of them. They last for 10 days on standby or for 10 hours of talk time on a single charge.

The $100 package, which will be available in March, includes a base station and two phones along with a hockey-puck-size home intercom device that acts as a speakerphone."
