Located in the rural woodlands of Driebergen, The Netherlands, Villa Sterkenburg certainly looks the part. Though the family home is bright and cozy on the interior, its general form gives one the impression of an industrial silo for a farmhouse, with a corrugated tin roof that covers the living area and glass walls that give the home transparency.
Because Villa Sterkenburg is located in a sparsely traveled area, it's residents weren't particularly concerned with privacy. This allowed DP6 architectuurstudio, the firm behind the design, to build it with many glass walls along the length of the home. These walls engender natural light to penetrate the interior from multiple angles, creating a brightness that might not seem readily apparent when looking at the structure from the outside. Further, the interior walls are clad in unfinished timber, adding to the rustic and natural feel of the home.
