Weathered Beach Homes

The Clovelly House Gains Character with Each Year

Farnan Findlay Architects completed the 'Clovelly House,' a Sydney property that's designed to look better as it ages.

The home, which is located a mere 50 meters away from the beach, is clad in materials that will weather beautifully with the coastal conditions, such as salty air and gusting winds. This included spotted gum timber and an aluminum roof. The home is meant to be a relaxing oasis; one that doesn't mind a little sand between its cracks. In other words, it is meant to be a "beach house with a sense of belonging."

To counteract site restrictions, the architects designed an H-Shaped plan comprised of two linking pavilions. They also installed an oversized deck, which allows ocean views without comprising the clients' precious privacy.
