Clouds AO Designs the New 010 Building in Fukuoka

New York-based design studio Clouds AO was tapped to design the 010 Building located in Fukuoka, Japan with the help of both NKS2 Architects and Yakumi Nakahara Architects. The team creates a spiraling facade using stainless steel materials that panel along the cultural building. It overlooks the Naka River and has spaces that function as a bar, restaurant, and theater.

The studio explains that "The whirling curtains open up in all directions, inviting people from multiple approaches. The building does not have a traditional facade, there are no preferred sides, and its sculpted form faces in all directions equally. The satin metal curtains reflect the constantly changing liquid aura of the weather and open sky by day and shimmering city lights and neon by night."
