Recycled Sentimental Homes

The Tokinoie Residence Keeps a Father's Memory Alive

Tokinoie is a modern house that encapsulates the memories of the previous generation within its walls.

ASOstyle designed the Japanese home with healing in mind, as the home owners were still grieving from a death in the family. The clients' wanted the design of the house to reflect the memory of the lost patriarch. To do so, the architects recycled materials from the original home and blended them into the new structure. The design elements that will revive the father's memory are subtle and will only be noticed by the family themselves.

The home features a central courtyard, a pool, traditional Japanese tatami rooms and an atelier. The living area is oriented towards an outdoor space for better integration.
