The British designer Giles Miller created a spherical pavilion in the outdoors that is made up of cedar wood shingles.
Called the 'Perspectives' installation, the piece of art sits on top of a hill in England and contains seating for people hiking in the area. The structure is made up of a steel framework that was hand-covered with cedar wood shingles that had previously been carved into oval shapes. Each of the shingles feature initials, messages and poems that the designer collected from people in the area. The shingles can be manipulated to open and close shut in order to control the amount of light being let into the structure. The spherical pavilion was created to age naturally as the forest does, with the shingles likely to eventually turn white.
This artistic installation also works as a functional piece in this wooded area, making for a structure that is both beautiful and useful.
