Students from Rhose Island School of design took on the task of testing soft materials and to construct them into soft furniture designs.
Instead of using regular techniques to build their pieces, the students were assigned to weave, knit, crochet and knot functional pieces of furniture. The resulting exhibit is six very different and unique designs. Most eye-catching and appealing is the 'Sinuous Chair' which has a metal frame and long, vibrantly blue, cylindrical cushions woven through it. The 'Stretch Lounge' chair is also quite unique, being a two-person seat in which the two people would face each other while being side by side. Another unique concept is the 'Caterpillar Lounge,' a chair that appears to defy the laws of gravity -- looking more like a scarf than something that can be sat on.
The unique soft furniture designs show that designers are not limited to regular standards of practice and creation.
