Triangular Lot-Based Narrow Homes

Matthew Royce Designs the Oxford Triangle Home for Himself

Architect Matthew Royce from M Royce Architecture designs the Oxford Triangle house in Venice Beach, California as a home for himself. The unique structure is designed with inspiration from a trip he took to Iran back in 2013. The home sits on top of a narrow triangular-shaped lot that was a historic electric streetcar line functioning back in 1905 all the way through the mid-50s.

During his travels, he found that grand villas in Kashan had basements that filled up with snow during the winter to function as a fridge in the summertime. Translating this influence, he adds a space that rests between the public sidewalk and the home. The underground area filters through natural light and the ocean breeze with the open structure.
