Post-dynastic modern China was founded on the idea of collectivism, according to O-office Architects, and the firm's latest project, titled 'New Collectivism,' hopes to reaffirm that idealistic vision. The dormitory-styled condo complex houses over 150 staff working at the nearby Song Shan Hu Building Industrialization Research Center, and it is explicitly designed to foster a sense of community.
The living accommodations that run through the center of the building are raised up by two columns on opposite sides, leaving space underneath for an outdoor meeting place. Further, the east side of the building, which is called 'The Mount,' has a large climbing wall that culminates with a balcony and patio that offers direct entrance to the interior.
