Masterplan by Chad Wright Nostalgically Explores the American Dream

Masterplan by Chad Wright, an artist and designer raised in Orange County, California, and based in San Francisco, may be made out of sand castles, but they provide a much more realistic vision on the beachy shore rather than a whimsical one. In place of the classic castle, this striking series takes on the classic postwar American home. Repeated over and over again, the sand houses make up a suburbia that is at once familiar and mesmerizing.

On a more personal level, Masterplan by Chad Wright echos his childhood memories. Wright reveals, "As children, my big brother Christopher and I would build cities in the sand, beneath the bungalow’s slatted porch floorboards." He goes on to state, "Phase One focuses on the mass-produced tract house, re-examining it as symbol for the model American Dream."
