Brick-Resembling Libraries

The Katowice Library by HS99 Towers With Academic Grandiosity

The Katowice Library by HS99 is a university campus facility located in Katowice, Poland.

Officially titled the ‘Katowice Scientific Information Center and Academic Library,’ this construction is intricate with red sandstone paneling. This visually striking commons was designed by architectural trio Dariusz Herman, Wojciech Subalski and Piotr Smierzewski. The look of this library was created with an intent to work well with the surrounding buildings as well as stand out with its unconventional design aesthetic.

Though the building’s facade resembles brick, the spaces between each panel serves as narrow windows that are welcoming of light to the information commons within. Indoors, the decor is rustic with industrial-style decors and spiraling metal staircases. The Katowice Library by HS99 stands out to make for a phenomenal study environment.
