House L27 is located in a tightly packed suburban neighborhood in Beiriz, Portugal, but dIONISO Lab, the architecture studio behind the family home, creatively adapted the design of the house to make use of that limited space. From the exterior, the home fits nicely into its rectangular plot, but House L27's interior present a far different and less angular image.
The interior courtyard of House L27 is an abstractly flowing space. Viewed from above, it looks like a Rorschach splotch in the middle of a regular rectangular grid. This abstraction is reflected in the halls of the house as well, with curved walls opposite from straight ones in the areas that look onto the courtyard. Overall, the impression one gets is the composed, contained chaos of a jig saw puzzle piece.
