'Digital Wells' in Kenya Help Villagers In Ravaging Drought

World Vision Kenya and the Nakuru County government have funded 'digital wells' to give villagers in rural areas of Kenya water access. The region has been facing severe droughts that have caused underdevelopment, water wars, and food insecurities.

The 'digital wells' give residents access to potable water through a high-tech solution that reduces waste. The wells are activated through microchips given to residents that are pre-loaded with funds that allow them to pay and dispense water. This has been instrumental in funding the wells as officials no longer have concerns of people not paying their water bills.

The project hopes to eventually bring clean water into the homes, to ensure every citizen has equal access to water.
