This Printing Factory Was Turned into a Spacious Art and Film Archive

This converted warehouse will soon be home to the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. This massive structure was once occupied by a printing plant in the 1930s that resembled a dark and dreary bunker. The previous structure also had an adjacent factory and office, but because of an earthquake, they were left abandoned. The goal of the museum is not only to preserve artifacts, but to also engage with art in interactive ways.

The new and improved museum is now bright, spacious and is the perfect place to pay tribute to multimedia. A series of skylights has allowed an abundance of natural light to flow into the building, which also boasts large windows. The converted warehouse will also have multiple screening rooms that can accommodate 230 viewers, a perfect showcase for the museum's expansive film archive.
