The new Christchurch Convention Centre in New Zealand will be built by a consortium including Woods Bagot and local architectural practice Warren and Mahoney. The landmark development is part of what is dubbed the 'Christchurch Blueprint', a series of public facilities intended to be used by citizens and tourists.
The project will come to function as an important and distinctive symbol for the region, as vast sections of the region are still undergoing intensive rebuilding in the wake of a destructive earthquake back in 2011. The project will also provide a significant economic boost to Christchurch in its post-earthquake era.
Work on site is scheduled to begin in 2015. It is expected that the Christchurch Convention Centre will be opened to the public in 2017.
