Modern Cable-Stayed Bridges

UNStudio Won a Competition for a Bridge in Budapest, Hungary

Dutch studio UNStudio envisioned a cable-stayed bridge design that crosses over the Danube river to connect the urban areas of Ujbuda and Csepel. The structure's main span measures up to 220 meters and its side span is 500 meters. The award-winning proposal was selected among 16 others and is a modern manifestation of how UNStudio perceives the architectural future of Budapest — sleek and connected.

The cable-stayed bridge design will cater to a road, a tram, cyclists and pedestrians. UNStudio focused on creating a gateway to the city, something "like an inviting [architecturally sound] gesture of hands." Thus, the structure becomes a facilitator of connection, as well as a functional observation deck.
