Local design firm Kieron Gait Architects has taken on the task of renovating the Balmoral Hillside House in Brisbane. The new looks are defined by a timber framing which blurs the boundaries of the inside and outside area of the home. It is named after the suburb the home is nestled in and was first designed in the 90s. The family wanted to highlight the undercroft space and the update shines a spotlight on it.
The studio explained the design process, "Typical of the time, [Balmoral Hillside House] was built very cheaply with no insulation and untreated pine in the main. Fortunately, the house had excellent quality hardwood bearers and joists and was already highest with. Despite its hillside site affording expansive views from the upper level, the owners wanted to forge strong connections to the garden for their three young boys."
