Spinning AR Paintings

Snapchat and Damien Hirst Created an AR Art Experience

Artist Damien Hirst teamed up with Snapchat to create a first-of-its-kind AR art experience that gives app users the chance to make their own colorful paintings with just their Snapchat camera. Hirst started his Spin Painting series in 1994 and the pieces have gone on to become some of the artist's most well-known works of art. While there are DIY spin paintings that can be created at home with a manual or motorized spinning contraptions that yields great results, it goes without saying that the activity is a messy one.

Thanks to the partnership between Snapchat and Hirst, the Snapchat community can now create their very own spin paintings with an augmented reality lens. The experience lets users pour paint onto a circular surface, spin their creation and then share it to a virtual gallery.
