Junya Ishigami Introduces the Zaishui Art Museum Along a Lake

Japanese architect Junya Ishigame introduces the impressive Zaishui Art Museum, which is a structure that measures a kilometer long along a lake in China. It also features purposeful openings that let the water flow onto the museum floor for a fully integrated feel. It is along the artificial lake at the entrance of China's Shandong province.

The main goal of the design was to create something that felt like it was emerging from under the lake. Ishigami explains, "Columns repeated at regular intervals define the new surface of the water, while the water's edge created by that surface defines the new ground. A new exterior is born, in the structure's interior." The rest of the columns are inserted with glass paneling to overlook the lake.
