Portable Steel Cabins

Wiercinski Studio Has Transformed Cargo Containers into Elevated Cabins

The Polish-based design practice Wiercinski Studio has developed a portable cabin made from steel shipping containers. Designed for remote living, this project was developed in response to the shift in attitudes towards rural living caused by the pandemic.

The cabin is designed with flexibility and portability in mind. It is currently located in the Szelagowski Park in Poznan, Poland; however, it can easily be relocated to a remote forest. The cabin is made of two steel-framed cargo containers that measure 12 x 3.5 meters. The interior design includes a living room, kitchen, workspace, bathroom, and sleeping area. The cabin is insulated with spray foam and is built using birch plywood which lends a soft and warm interior aesthetic.

The exterior boasts a natural and industrial aesthetic which harmoniously blends with the natural landscape.
