Los Angeles-based architecture firm Johnson Fain recently erected 'Wall House,' and award-winning family home in the town of Ojai, California. The secluded bungalow has all the ostensible trappings of a humble country abode, with abundant native foliage spread across the 12-acre plot, but it nonetheless sports a markedly modern design aesthetic.
The front-facing facade of Wall House makes the home's name clear. The shape is almost uniformly flat, with a Corten steel facade that is punctuated by a few windows and little else. Though only a single storey, the facade wall rises above the height of the roof, giving Wall House an imposing height from that angle. Rounding to the back, ample windows and a welcoming living area contrast against the sternness of its transverse side.
