Virtual Travel Simulators

British Airways Uses Virtual Simulation to Mimic the Joy of Travel

In order to share the experience of being to travel the world, British Airways put a pair of Oculus Rift goggles to work to create a virtual simulation. The goggles were given out to members of the public in Europe to play around with on the streets, virtually transporting them to destinations in the United States once they'd strapped the headset on their heads.

The experience simulated the 360 degrees of what it might actually be like to jog on a beachy boardwalk, tour an urban city, ice skate or touch noses with a horse. Although most are now familiar with the name Oculus Rift, it's not a technology that many have had the chance to personally try. The experiences British Airways creates are so immersive, there are several cases where people are caught off balance by what they see through the goggles.
