Immersive Virtual Reality Installations

'The Origin of the World' was Created by Miguel Chevalier

'The Origin of the World' is a grandly-named virtual reality installation put together by celebrated French artist Miguel Chevalier. The installation is displayed in an ellipse-shaped space at the K11 Art Foundation in Shanghai, China. The installation consists of a digital projection that is inspired by the world of biology, microorganisms and cellular automata.

This virtual reality installation depicts cells multiplying, dividing and merging in a variety of rhythms. When viewers wander around the space, the trajectory of the cells is disrupted. The black-and-white megapixels slowly give way to more eye-catching, colorful spirals that perform seemingly choreographed movements, all set to the tune of Italian composer Jacopo Baboni Schilingi.

The installation will be presented until August 31 as part of an exhibition titled 'Metamorphosis of the Virtual 5 + 5'. Photo Credits: designboom, miguel-chevalier
