The Vanilla Swirl Apartment Uses Soft Tones and Integrated Storage

The Vanilla Swirl apartment in Navi Mumbai is a two-bedroom residence designed by Nirali Mehta of Dojo Design Studio and Rishika Sutwala of Prophouse. The project organizes the compact home through a neutral palette and a continuous language of curved forms. Storage is built directly into the architecture, allowing the layout to remain open while maintaining function. The living space includes a foldable dining table that retracts into the wall, enabling the room to shift between uses.

The interior uses materials such as wood, plaster, and glass cabinetry with circular handles repeated throughout the home. Scalloped wall details and rounded furniture edges create a consistent motif across rooms. The primary bedroom includes a woven headboard and an ombré backdrop, while the second bedroom features a Murphy bed integrated into cabinetry. The kitchen extends vertically with full-height storage, and patterned flooring introduces contrast within the otherwise neutral palette.

Trend Themes

  1. Integrated Architectural Storage — Built-in cabinetry and concealed Murphy elements shift storage from afterthought to primary spatial organizer, enabling compact layouts to maintain openness without sacrificing function.
  2. Curved-neutral Aesthetic — Soft tones paired with continuous rounded forms and scalloped details create a calming, cohesive visual language that redefines minimalist luxury for small urban homes.
  3. Flexible Multi-use Interiors — Retractable furniture and foldaway dining solutions allow single rooms to serve multiple programmatic needs, increasing utility per square foot in dense living contexts.

Industry Implications

  1. Residential Architecture — Design practices focused on compact urban dwellings can adopt integrated storage and curved spatial strategies to deliver higher perceived space and tailored occupant experiences.
  2. Furniture and Joinery — Manufacturers of bespoke cabinetry and multifunctional furnishings can capitalize on demand for seamless, built-in solutions that blend structure with storage.
  3. Smart Home Systems — Home automation providers have room to integrate motorized retractable furniture and sensor-driven space modes to enhance adaptability and user comfort in micro-apartments.
