Low-Lying Textured UK Villas

Peter Zumthor Pays Homage to Italian Architect Andrea Palladio

This UK villa is the first permanent structure by Peter Zumthor in the country. The silhouette of the building boasts some interesting design decision and inspiration. For one, the architect attempted to celebrate the surrounding landscape through a minimalist and noninvasive design. He also wanted to elevate the presence of the UK villa by highlighting "the incredible presence of materials and the beautiful command of space, light, and shadow." For the exterior, the Swiss architect used "concrete [that was] rammed by hand" in order to achieve a rich and interesting texture.

In his work, Peter Zumthor looks toward Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio who takes a special place in the contemporary creative's heart.
