Drab Painting Makeovers

Artists Revamp Thrift-Store Paintings to Create Modern Masterpieces

Six artists come together to make use of thrift-store paintings and give each a modern makeover. In its original condition, many of these pictures portray a drab and boring landscape that can mostly only seen in old motel rooms or in your grandparents' homes. The artists take these paintings and make use of their creative skills to create something completely new.

Each of the paintings are unique and accurately represents each artist's style effectively. Some chose monsters to spruce up the usually plain landscape like Steven Leduc demonstrated in adding a kraken, a legendary sea monster, to the seemingly calm and dark seas while others like Chris McMahon chose to add other mythical accents to the pastoral background.

The artists add their own spice to create bright, whimsical and creative artistry to these originally dull thrift-store paintings.
