Ultra-Thin Thermometers

This Micro Thermal Sensor Can be Attached Directly Onto Baby's Skin

Japanese researchers recently designed this ultra-thin thermal sensor that can be directly attached to the skin. The thermometer is an ideal monitoring device that can be used to track and assess a baby's temperature.

The thin piece of film contains a tiny thermal sensor that can measure temperatures between 25 and 50 degrees Celsius. The flexibility of the device allows it to track the temperature of the human body, which falls under the thermometer's temperature range. The electronic circuit is as thick as one fourth of a human hair and is printed onto an adhesive plaster.

While this prototype is still in its production stages, its researchers are confident that it will play a huge role for "monitoring the health of infants or even making sportswear more comfortable." The materials used to create this device are affordable and will allow parents and doctors to easily check an infant's body temperature.
