Oscar-Nominated 'The Square' Depicts the Egyptian Revolution

As an Egyptian having lived through - and taken part in - the January 25 Revolution in Egypt and its aftermath, watching 'The Square' was an emotional roller coaster of highs (of pride) and lows (of frustrations) for me.

As the first Egyptian film to get an Oscar nomination, 'The Square' almost plays out as a timeline to the eventful few years since Egypt's highly publicized political upheaval in 2011 that pushed longtime president Hosni Mubarak to step down from power.

Egyptian-American filmmaker and director Jehane Noujaim chooses to document the Netflix Originals production through the eyes of half a dozen Tahrir Square protesters over a three-year period.

Nominated for best documentary feature at the 2014 Oscars, 'The Square' is a riveting and touching portrayal of Egypt's political state and the price of freedom and justice on its revolting youth.
