JKMM Architects Designs the Tammela Stadium in Tampere

Finnish design firm JKMM Architects designed the Tammela Stadium, which is defined as a 'miniature city.' It is comprised of a dynamic football field, housing spaces, and retail units, all under one swooping roof. The building of various functions takes over the 1930s Tammela Stadium, which has been optimized for purpose and disassembled to accommodate the various needs, reusing the same lighting.

The founder of JKMM, Samuli Miettinen spoke to Dezeen about the design project, noting "The idea was to design a place that blends seamlessly into its urban environment, drawing strength from its surroundings and giving back by enhancing the character of the surrounding area. The stadium is a miniature city that contains many functions. The character of the building adapts to the geometry and scale of the urban space."
