Synthetic Swamp Experiences

The 'Swamp Orchestra' Recreates Visiting a Bog Using Sound Systems

The 'Swamp Orchestra' provides consumers with a synthetic visit to a bog by recreating the experience using a linked system of sound. The installation is put togehter by artist Bojana Petkovic from Belgrade, Serbia and it utilizes the power of sound to immerse visitors into a nature environment, while they are in fact in an artificial space.

The project explores the concept of real and simulated experiences by utilizing how effective sound can be to virtually transport visitors to a space they've never been to. The project contains a series of sound modules that react based off of light coming into the area. The reaction releases different sounds from organisms and nature found in a swamp, all in relation to the visitor's positioning. The guest is instructed to keep their eyes closed while in the exhibit, to feel fully submersed by the sounds.
