Studio Ossidiana Crafts the Buyukada Songlines Floating Garden

The Buyukada Songlines crafted by Studio Ossidiana is part of the 5th Istanbul Design Biennial. Cruising off the coasts of the Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus, the piece takes inspiration from Bruce Chatwin's travel diaries. The floating garden is informed by climatic elements such as the Mediterranean microclimate, the depletion of fish, the transplantation of corals, the migration patterns of the birds, and the general conservation of the islands.

The installation includes a platform representative of the soils of the islands, a marine terrazzo medallion made with rocks and shells, and bird feeders for migratory birds to rest upon. The Design Biennial is currently on view and will remain available to visit until November 2021.
