Smiljan Radic Was Chosen to Design The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion

Chilean architect Smiljan Radic is set to design the 2014 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion. Radic has a lot to live up to, following architects such as Sou Fujimoto and Herzog & de Meuron; his design is incredible though.

Radic's concept for the Serpentine Galleries Pavilion 2014 is based on nineteenth century author Oscar Wildes vision of the Castle of the Selfish Giant. This pavilion will look like a massive glowing shell and will be built using white fibreglass. The white fibreglass will give the shell translucency making it "attract the attention of passers-by, like lamps attracting moths" according to Radic.

The pavilion will rest on massive quarry stones and will appear to be floating from a distance. The design is such that once you're inside, the surroundings will seem lower giving you the sense that you're floating as well.
