aeroSee Uses a Human Team As Well As a Search and Rescue Drone to Find People

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have proved particularly helpful when it comes to humanitarian missions, which now extends to a search and rescue drone. The aeroSee project is testing drone technology along with crowdsourcing to help locate people in distress. This could also be implemented in a disaster situation by bringing aid to survivors in a speedier fashion.

Photography drones are being combined with human volunteers to form a rescue team. First the search and rescue drone is sent out to take geotagged pictures of the danger zone. People can scan the photos online for signs of people. When the virtual team tags a photo, help can be dispatched to that area.

Currently in beta, aeroSee is only available to professions as the technology and research continues at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK.
