Sam Weller's designs are unique in that they use the industrial materials (like steel) that are so often hidden, but also the strongest part of a product. Using a CNC wire-bending machine, poles of material are constructed into different, streamlined shapes that are easily fitted in slots within their wooden counterparts that become the furniture surface. No nails, screws or hammers are needed! Acting as table legs or shelving supports, these wiry parts are easy to ship and assemble -- much like the Ikea furniture concept. The difference is that the 'Holdfast' designs can be made into different, more unconventional configurations.
Weller has only totally finished one of his designs, the shelving unit seen here. Hopefully he can find ways to extend the 'Holdfast' concept to other pieces of furniture.
