Guérin & Pedroza Architects designed a seven-story block of flats to help transform a nineteenth century fort outside Paris into a residential district. The Issy-les-Moulineaux fort was one of several built around Paris to protect from Prussian invasion between 1841 and 1845.
It was decommissioned and went unused for a long period of time. It was bought by the local government in 2010 and is now becoming a residential area. The contribution from Guérin & Pedroza contains 74 flats which range from studio apartment to five bedroom homes. Each flat was created unique by the architects by hollowing out or filling the face of the building to create terraces and balconies. Each balcony and terrace is covered in a gold material to make it stand out among the surrounding infrastructure.
