The RAW Material Exhibit Rethinks Basic Building Materials

The RAW Material art installation recently took place in a storage locker. Located in Toronto, Canada, this unusual space provided the perfect industrial backdrop for the sculptures showcased within. A creative study of basic building materials, wood, glass and metal were manipulated into mini hanging houses, oversized illuminated cases and more.

Boasting an interactive element, the RAW Material art installation invited onlookers to doodle and draw on a glass canvas. Playful and unexpected, it encouraged visitors to truly rethink these 'raw materials.' RAW principal Roland Rom Colthoff says, "In the design and builder community, we spend our days obsessing over how to manipulate these resources to create structures for our clients and the culture at large. We want to create an atmosphere where people will have the opportunity to play with these building blocks--let their imagination run wild like when they were kids."
