This San Francisco Ramen Bar is Inspired by Street Food Culture

This San Francisco ramen bar is inspired by the culture of street food in Japan, but with an ultramodern design twist. Designed by Craig Steely Architecture, Orenchi Beyond is located in San Francisco's hip Mission District and has a walk-up counter that will be especially popular with the neighborhood's lunch crowd.

The unique experience combines modern design elements with the hallmarks of Japan's street food culture, and in particular, ramen bars. The original shop's facade was pushed back 12-feet to create an engawa, an interstitial room between the sidewalk and the store, and a 4,000-pound Yuba River basalt rock that was specially sourced and sits in the center of the engawa. The external facade is made of Sakura wood and is designed to welcome in patrons.
