Tape-Bound Benches

The Potencial Escultorico Series Closes Off Voids with Color

With the Potencial Escultórico series, one designer greatly alters the appeal of public amenities. Such furnishings were manufactured and installed throughout the city so to provide places for the public to stop and rest; however, Marlon de Azambuja has stripped these Spanish fixtures of their primary purpose through the application of extra material.

The artist took colored duct tape and wrapped it around the backrests and armrests of benches, around stair railings, ramps and lampposts. Where these objects initially offered openings to accommodate sitters and people passing through, the 'Sculptural Potential' series made such interactions impossible. The designer of Potencial Escultórico invites you to appreciate the urban environment and its forms with a different and playful perspective.
