This Home's Central Component is an Oval Courtyard

Luigi Rosselli Architects designed the 'Subiaco Oval Courtyard,' an innovative family home located in the suburb of Perth, Western Australia.

Those passing by the house on the street will notice nothing out of the ordinary; little do they know, this residence features a secret cluster of adjoining pavilions, which form an enthralling oval courtyard garden. The street-facing side of the pavilions are aligned and analogous with the preserved architecture surrounding them, featuring pitched roofs, traditional verandas and brickwork.

The architects stuck to the traditional in this aspect, but were able to have more freedom in other respects; namely, the ovular courtyard that runs through the heart of the home. It is the central, principal feature of the home, both aesthetically and practically. In terms of interior function, the courtyard acts as a dividing feature. Outside, it is an open, engaging space for both play and entertainment and rest and relaxation.
