Federico Diaz's Outside Itself Responds to Light and Movement

The Outside Itself art installation may seem futuristic and methodological, but there is a sinister element to the process that makes it appear more otherworldly than anything else. Comprised of two robots and countless black spheres, this is what Fast Co Design describes as a "pixelated wave of death."

Created by Prague artist Federico Díaz as a follow-up to his 2010 installation Geometric Death Frequency--141, the Outside Itself art installation is currently being exhibited at the Arsenale Novissimo in Venice. An interactive piece, Outside Itself responds to the movements and changes in ambient lighting, which constantly change the look and shape of the piece. The only consistent thing about the Outside Itself installation is that it will continue to grow, featuring nearly 500,000 spheres by the end of it.
