Amusing Musical Swing Sets

The Baloica Sound Exhibit Adds Some Swinging Musical Notes to Your Day

Designers Claudia Oliviera and Isabel Bournbon from studio Elas Duas installed a musical swing set entitled ‘Baloica,’ which loosely translates into ‘rocking,’ for the listening pleasure of civilians at the Convento Das Domenicas in Guimaraes, Portugal. The swing set was rigged to play musical notes upon the swinging motion, creating a pleasant surprise for guests.

The different musical combinations of the swingers – which can be pretty pleasing and lovely, especially when accompanied by the church bells - are captured in a video. Though swinging is technically a recreational playground pastime for young children, anyone – young or old – can get a kick out of this motion-based sound installation. The science behind the installation isn’t shown, but this fun set of swings puts a new twist to a nostalgic leisurely hobby.
