OMA's MPavilion 2017 Design Features a Nimble Performance Space

For MPavilion 2017, the annual design and architecture event in Melbourne's Queen Victoria Gardens, OMA's Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten have installed an amphitheater that allows for a more dynamic form of entertainment. The structure houses a grandstand that can rotate around the central performance space, allowing for unique plays and musical performances that make use of the mechanical quality of the space.

The spinning grandstand is surely the most striking aspect of the MPavilion 2017 space, but the exterior is interesting as well. The roof of the building has the effect of floating above a minimal amount of support, as the walls that make up the surrounding of the grandstand consist of simple metal girdings and little else beyond that.
