Morphosis Added Some Whimsy to Its Hotel Room Refurbishments

In tackling the challenge of refurbishing the rooms for 'The House of Architects' at 7132 Hotel in Vals, Switzerland, Morphosis combined clean and luxurious lines with a touch of retro whimsy. The American architecture and design firm completely remade the 20 square meter rooms, with the most striking aspect being the showers.

Morphosis worked on 20 guest suites, and the firm ultimately implemented two similar room designs. The majority of the materials and styles in the rooms adhere to typical ideas of modernism: shale, marble, or wood walls that give way to floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the secluded Swiss countryside. However, both of the room designs contain a touch of the unusual thanks to the showers. They are enclosed by a bulbous glass cast in either illuminated white or yellow tinges, thrusting some sixties mod sensibility into the otherwise contemporary room.
