Modern Schoolhouse Apartments

Erklund_terbeek Designs a Modern Apartment Within a Former School

A 1912 school building in Rotterdam has been transformed into six modern apartments and local architecture firm erklund_terbeek attentively supervised one particular living space in great detail. It consisted of two former classrooms and a hallway. The height of the ceiling created possibilities for decoration, window and light optimization, as well as intermediate floors. A large "white box is suspended from the ceiling," wherein a private workspace is situated with a beautiful outlook to the garden. Outside, the boxed structure creates a comfortable and intimate sitting area for the living room.

The interior of the modern apartments is met by the old and historic details of the school's preserved facade. Merging the past and the present, the architects of erklund_terbeek have created a spacious loft that is bound to be a popular and desirable living quarters.
