Minimalist Gallery Spaces

This Japanese Gallery is Stripped Down to the Bare Essentials

This three-storey minimalist gallery and residence was renovated on a limited budget to create a stripped back space.

The 'Diamant' building is located in Osaka, Japan near the Yamato River and was designed by architect Jun Murata. No windows were built on the building's South and West sides that face busy streets to help increase privacy and intimacy inside the gallery. Sound insulation was also added to help limit street noise from entering the interior of the building.

The minimalist gallery design on the first floor receives natural light from windows located on the East end of the building, and opaque glass blocks were arranged to form square windows that let light seep in without exposing the stripped back interior. With these simple yet inspired design choices the gallery is left plain and private as to better display the work contained inside.,
