In an effort to reinterpret traditional Mexican architecture local to the Lake Chapala area, architecture studio Atelier ARS° has enclosed a white home with latticed shutters and a surrounding stone wall.
Architects Alejandro Guerrero and Andrea Soto explain, "The architecture in this area has been conceived as a folkloric, stylistic reinterpretation of local tradition. So we proposed a project that relates deeply to the natural and cultural environment, even if it can't have direct views of the lake."
The lattice, which faces towards the south, is constructed out of Palo Dulce trees and designed to filter incoming sunlight. Behind the shutters, the doors are able to fold back, opening to the home's ground floor to a paved patio in the front.
