ORA Converts a Historic Building to the Modern Masná 130

Czech architecture studio ORA takes on a renovation project that renovates what was once a renaissance home in the town of Český Krumlov to a modern home dubbed Masná 130. It retains most of the original details including the wooden beams but elevates it to a more contemporary angle using modern furniture. The building was neglected for decades and developed various issues.

Petra Hanáková and Radek Techlovský purchased the home despite this, seeing its potential, and spent two years changing the ground floor into a cafe. The latest part of this renovation is the living space originally as rental space but are now looking to create a single apartment they can live in themselves. Hanáková and Techlovský explain, "We did not want to create a historical 'museum' interior, nor a design showroom. We wanted to organically connect the historical and contemporary layers."
